HERITAGE AND TRAINING

Born in 1969 at New Delhi to Pushpavalli and Suryakumar Bulusu, who are well-known for promoting the classical arts in India, Satyavani was initiated to dancing at the age of four by Guru Sri Vedantam Mallikarjuna Sarma, belonging to the legendary Kuchipudi family. Later her parents moved to Baroda, where the art of Bharatanatyam flourished since the Maharajah of Baroda brought his wife from the South in the 19th century. Along with the queen came the great exponents of that time bringing the tradition of Bharatanatyam into Baroda. The rich tradition has been continued by the tutelage of those exponents. Satyavani continued her training in Kuchipudi under Guru Mrs. Rema Shrikant, who is an exponent of Bharatanatyam, Kuchipudi, Kathakali and Mohiniattam. Satyavani also acquired training in Bharatanatyam and Mohiniattam under the same Guru.
